The primary objective of South Belfast GP Federation is to provide better care, delivered in a more responsive way and closer to home, for all our patients. This focuses on working across the local health and social care community, in collaboration with a wide number of agencies, in seeking to design and implement innovative healthcare strategies and ways of delivering high quality care. In all that we do we place the patient and their carers at the centre and use all means possible to ensure that their voices are heard.
The South Belfast Federation of Family Practices, which came into being in 2015, is a Community Interest Company comprised of the 16 GP practices in South Belfast who have all nominated a Member Director from their practice partnership to represent their GP practice on the Federation.
Our purpose is to improve the service to our patients by collaborating and combining our efforts and through innovation in the services we provide. Through the development of the Federation we have been able to recruit General Practice Pharmacists into all our practices, build a responsive and relevant programme of continuing professional development for all practice staff, take part in innovative ways of referring patients internally for a variety of conditions and piloting new services such as a diagnostic service for asthma and COPD.
There are 8 GP Federations within the Belfast and South – Eastern Trust areas which collectively cover a patient population of approximately 790,000 patients and, because of scale, provides services which would not otherwise be delivered at individual practice level.
